Congratulations Congratulations to Yvette Linthwaite who gave birth to Leia Adria at 0147 on Sunday 1st May in Coventry.
Competition Results
Congratulations to Zante Beaumont, Libby McGowan, Stephen Miles & Emily Streets who competed in the BJC Welsh Junior National Championships that took place on Sunday 25th September in Hereford. Their debut in the Espoir section; Stephen won his 1st fight but lost the next 2, Zante took Gold, Emily took Silver and Libby took Bronze.
Congratulations to Kimberly Miles who competed in the BJA National Senior Team Championships that took place on Saturday 9th July at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Despite not having fought for a long time, Kimberly fought in the 070kg category. The Northern Home Counties Team gained a well-deserved Bronze.
Congratulations to Mike Mills, Adam Johnstone, William Sheppard & Emily Streets who competed in the Kyu grade categories at the Leicester Open Championships on Saturday 9th April winning Gold and bronzes respectively. Mike Mills also competed in the Dan grade pools (to give the Dan grades more fights) and came away with another Bronze in that category.
Mountain Storm On Saturday 21st January, students did a throw that involved both hands holding the same side of the jacket. This throw when translated into English is Mountain Storm. The throw is called Yama Arashi.
Courses attended
Bognor Summer School, Monday 22nd - Friday 26th August Libby & Yvette attended the above course. Libby passed her FPJ 1, trained on Wednesday, learning lots of new techniques and most importantly having lots of fun. Libby entered the National Grading on the Friday to attempt her 2nd Kyu and after winning her first fight, unfortunately just missed out on achieving her blue belt! Libby met the President of the BJC, Mr Robin Otani and got her obi signed in Kanji.
Yvette qualifed as an FPJ 1 Assessor, got the opportunity to practise kata ready for competition in September and assisted with the National Grading on the Friday.

Hopefully more of White Horse Judo Club will attend Bognor next year as you missed a great opportunity to learn new things, meet new people and make new friends.
Fundamental Principles of Judo Level 1, Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd August Libby & Yvette attended the above course at Bognor Summer School. Libby passed her FPJ 1 and Yvette qualifed as an FPJ 1 Assessor.
Fundamental Principles of Judo Level 1, Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st August Zante, Emily, Mark & Yvette attended the above course at White Horse Judo Club. Zante, Emily & Mark passed their FPJ 1 and Yvette re-qualified her FPJ 1. All are now qualified to coach for 2 years.
Fundamental Principles of Judo Level 2, Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th April Adam & Yvette attended the above course at Leicester. Adam managed to complete the first two elements of this Coaching Qualification and needs to do a lesson plan & be assessed taking a lesson to that plan before he gains the full qualification.
Yvette re-qualifed her FPJ 2 and is now qualified for 2 years.
Grading Seminar, Sunday 12th March Adam, Mark and Yvette attended a Grading Seminar at Leicester.This course is now compulsory for anybody wanting to hold Club (or higher) Gradings.
It was the first course of its kind and there will be many more following to make sure that everybody in the BJC is grading in the same way.
Since attending this course, we will be running the new BJC syllabus with immediate effect. Please check the BJC website for a copy of the new syllabus. Log Books can be purchased from the BJC: please ask to Yvette for more details.

Both were both promoted to 4th Kyu 2 red tabs at the National Ladies Grading held at Tamworth on Sunday 6th March 2011.
The first of its kind, with only 8 ladies being able to grade due to lack of numbers, it is hoped that more ladies will join in the next National Grading. |
